In May 2019, Grand Central in Toowoomba played host to a community event in support of the Australian Road Safety Foundation’s ‘Fatality Free Friday’.

Delivered in partnership with the Toowoomba Regional Council, the Department of Transport and Main Roads, Queensland Police Service, Queensland Fire and Emergency Services, Queensland Ambulance Service, PCYC Queensland, and Rotary Youth Driver Awareness, the event raised awareness of road safety in the region for Fatality Free Friday.

The annual event targets increased road safety awareness, asking people to make a pledge to stay alert and aware on the roads, with the aim of having one day with no recorded road fatality.

Grand Central Community Relations Manager Diane Balke said that the event provided a valuable chance for the community to meet local emergency services personnel to discuss the importance of road safety.

“This was a fantastic event for our local community, giving people the opportunity to meet and talk to members of our emergency services teams about the impact of road accidents and fatalities in our region before making their own Fatality Free Friday pledge,” Ms Balke said.
