To coincide with Homelessness Week, Eastland partnered with Urban Life and Winter Shelter in Maroondah to launch a Day Shelter to provide relief from the harsh winter weather for those sleeping rough in Eastland’s local community.
The Eastland Day Shelter provided a safe, warm and welcoming space that disadvantaged members of the community could access each afternoon.
Providing a place of comfort for those needing it most, the space included couches, chairs, tables, lockers and appliances to make warm drinks, all of which was donated by Eastland and the local community.
Eastland General Manager Greg Balmforth said that the Centre is passionate about helping those in the local community who need it most.
“We are proud that Eastland’s donations, together with those from our community, were able to be put to such a good use in the Eastland Day Shelter.
“We hope that the Eastland Day Shelter made life a little more comfortable this winter for those in need,” Mr Balmforth said.
The Eastland Day Shelter was run by over 300 volunteers, comprised of local community and church members, along with those who have experienced homelessness firsthand.
